Perfect Binding

Perfect Binding _Superior • Perfect Binding (PUR glue)

PUR adhesive has established itself as a viable alternative to many other adhesives in the industry. It is a very useful tool, adding additional performance and a solution to ever increasing paper changes.

In most cases PUR is used to enhance the performance of page pulls and flexes to make a stronger book. A variety of factors influence the ability of an adhesive to perform.

• Paper with cross-grain significantly reduces page pull.
• Length of paper fibers can drastically affect the strength of books. Short fibers
From recycled paper reduce the ability of an adhesive to bond to pages.
• Coated stocks, clay, aqueous coating, varnish and or UV coatings can be difficult surfaces to bond.
• Signature thickness and mixed paper stock can add stress to the glue line.
• Proper spine preparation (exposing maximum amount of fibers)
• Residual print solvents in the paper.

PUR bound books will have higher performance levels the SIMILARLY BOUND BOOKS using standard hot-metal (EVA).
• The thin, tough and flexible nature of PUR enables the pages to open easily and have Lay Flat characteristics.
• PUR is resistant to a variety of inks and solvents. In today’s printing industry jobs are rushed. Rebinds can be very expensive. PUR can eliminate this risk.
• PUR’s resistance to temperature extremes provides benefits during shipping and storage. Books stored in cars or containers are typically unaffected.

We recommend a prudent 24 hour waiting time for curing.
•The benefits of PUR require a change of mindset. PUR is a 100% solid moisture-curing adhesive. Depending on the available moisture, 24 to 72 hours of curing times are not unusual
